"Rugrats" is an animated cartoon(or as we Nickelodeon fans, and Nickelodeon fans would like to call it: a Nicktoon!) that originated on the hit number 1 kids-cable network:Nickelodeon in the 1990s. It was actually the second Nicktoon ever to air right after Doug and before "The Ren and Stimpy Show" on August 11th, 1991. These three shows gave out a whole-new meaning to Sunday mornings, however how did this show go into production?! Well, Klasky-Csupo worked on the Simpsons(yes, believe it or not!) around the early '90s and the Simpsons back then was considered the best animated comedy for adults, but both were fired, as they wanted new animators on the Simpsons, so they went to Nick in 1990 and made the pilot for the show "Rugrats" with the title:"Tommy Pickles and the Great White Thing", which featured the show's main character Tommy going into the bathroom and he was curious to see what the toilet would do, how it would functon and vice-versa. The show's plot consisted of the everyday-adventures of four(soon to be six, well five, since Dil didn't join in with their adventures) babies who are just your regular average-everyday babies, well at least until the adults start to leave the room, then their real personalities began to unravel. The bravest baby in the world: Tommy Pickles, the "voice of reason", easily scared, but meaning well and occsionally brave Chuckie Finster, The baby-twin equivalent to an old married couple and not afraid to eat anything(mostly Phil)Phil and Lil Deville, aided by Tommy's mischievous, trouble-making(but don't let that fool you, as she is actually a lovable characer!) 3-year old cousin Angelica, who again isn't your average 3 year old. Think Bart Simpson, but as a toddler and as a female. Then, there's Susie, who's basically Tommy's neighbor who acts as the voice of reason when Angelica is on the scene and often warns the babies about her mischievous schemes, although despite the mini-rivalry, Susie, other than the babies is pretty much the closest thing to a friend that Angelica has, for now anyway. Later in the series, comes Dil, Tommy's slightly cute, but annoying and newborn baby brother, which at first Tommy is jealous of, due to worrying that Stu and Didi(Tommy's parents) won't treat Tommy with the respect that they did when he was an only child, but Tommy since the incident with the peanut butter, has grown to love and take care of him, even going out of his way to educate Dil on certain aspects on life. Even later on, comes Chuckie's optimistic stepsister from Japan named Kimi-Watanabe(dubs the name Finster when Chaz and Kira get married though!), which Chuckie met in France. Kimi is basically like a female Tommy(to quote Chuckie: Oh great, another Tommy!), with a few differences, but has filled the empty aspect of Chuckie and Chaz's family lives. Sadly, the show was cancelled in 2004, but if by any chance, if we, the fans are lucky, it might just have a shot again! It has spawned three theatrical movies (one even involving a crossover with the Wild Thornberrys), and two spinoffs, one was showcasing what would happen if they ever grew up(All Grown Up, which ran from 2003-2008, based on the 10th anniversary special, broadcasted in 2001), and one that shows us Angelica's and Susie's life in pre-school(again based off an episode, made and aired in the UK in 2005 and aired briefly on Nicktoons in the US in 2008, but cancelled after a few episodes shortly.
However, don't doubt a chance, due to high ratings on the "90s Are All That" block, high ratings on the channel itself concerning reruns, there could be a chance that we're getting a tenth season, so never doubt it.
